Celebrating Art in Every Corner

At Cardo Brussels, art isn’t just a decoration, it’s one of our core pillars. From paintings on the walls to live caricature experiences, we believe that creativity brings people together and transforms moments into memories. But what makes art at Cardo so special? We sat down with a talented caricature artist to find out.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Abel DAN from @lecoindelacaricature, a master of caricature and humor, to get a behind-the-scenes look at his art and process:

1. Why caricature? What does it represent for you as an artist?
"Caricature represents a moment of meeting and sharing. It’s about capturing someone’s traits with a touch of humor."

2. When did you discover this passion and what drew you to caricature art?
"I’ve always painted and drawn since I was a child. Destiny brought someone into my life who inspired me to start doing caricatures and it quickly became the perfect way to channel my creativity. It’s also a fun, rewarding activity"

3. Who is your most memorable guest at Cardo Brussels and why?
"I’ve met cosmopolitan guests from all over, each bringing something unique. I always remember the people I caricature—it leaves a lasting impression."

4. How long does it take you to capture the essence of a guest, and what do you notice first?
"It takes less than 10 minutes. A few moments are enough to convey the essential features: the face’s contour, the eyes, and the lips are the most important."

5. If you had to draw Cardo Brussels itself, how would you represent it? Which artistic details would you highlight?
"I would represent it in connection with Magritte, as a cosmopolitan place filled with art, where you feel like you enter another world, magnificent."

6. What advice would you give to someone about to be caricatured by you? How should they prepare for this fun, creative moment?
"Be yourself, try to move as little as possible, relax… and expect the worst, haha!"

7. Have you ever drawn a self-portrait? What does it reveal about your relationship with art?
"Yes, several times. I think the work is more complex when you know the person and representing oneself is even more complex because you have to go beyond visible traits to capture your essence."
